Artist Within Series

The following artist statement pertains to an exhibition shown at Studio West, Ithaca, NY during the months of December 2014 and January 2015 as well as the Tompkins Regional Airport.

The Artist Within began its conversation with Heidi Lee much to her surprise, in the spring of 2013.

During a transformative period of introspection and personal healing, Heidi experienced an awakening to her connection with a divine energy that could only be expressed through painting. She began finger painting without a brush so that she could feel the force of this energy transfer from body to canvas. These fiery abstract paintings were an avenue to healing past trauma and Heidi was fascinated to see, when given permission, what the body can communicate to you in such gentle yet powerful ways.

Moving beyond her perceptions of pain, Heidi felt the Artist had more to say, and being in communion with this spirit felt so invigorating, she wanted to keep the conversation going.
She has come to the understanding the Artist resides within each of us and desires to dialog with the world through all forms of art. Without our eyes and without our unique interpretation of experience, the artist has no reason to exist.

These paintings are infused with love and desire for healing and blessings of harmony. May a memory of past love affairs with the Artist Within be awakened in the hearts of those who view its work here.
